[Pop] Royals – Lorde

LordeLook out for Lorde in the future as she uniquely marries a little pop, hip hop, and indie together.  I like the honesty in the following verses in the hook of this song, “We don’t care, we’re driving cadillacs in our dreams, but everybody’s like cristal, maybach, diamonds on your time piece.” “It don’t run in our blood, that kind of lux just ain’t for us. We crave a different kind of buzz.”

Walk Off The Earth

Walk Off The Earth looks like a fun group.  They are out of Ontario, Canada and check out their cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” below, one guitar and five people!

Imagine Dragons

This is a great example of how simplicity can go a long way.  This group Imagine Dragons have their shit together and know how to combine a simple rhythm and a beat to some great vocals.  Notice in this song, Radioactive, the vocals don’t over take the music and vise versa.

Animal Collective

For those of you already familiar with them, it should be no surprise to hear that Animal Collective‘s newest album is totally out of control. Tonight the band posted their new release, Centipede Hz, online for the public to stream. Along with each track is an unbelievably psychedelic video. I highly recommend watching/listening to the whole album. Maybe not before bed though. I’m pretty freakin’ creeped out right now. Anyway, you can take the journey that is Centipede Hz here. Good luck, & godspeed.

[Indie Pop] Some Nights – Fun!

I have to give props to my cousin for showing me song, Some Nights, a long time ago.  I didn’t like it at first but it is definitively growing on me and so is Fun!  I am going to try it out during a bike and run today and see if it is a good workout track.  I can’t help but get motivation from this song, I just picture my cousin working her ass off in the gym and I know reaching my going of doing a sprint try in under an hour will be knocked off my bucket list this summer!  Thanks GINA!!!!

Many may recognize this song from Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre’s new song, The Recipe.  The song, Meet The Frownies, was used by Kendrick and originally created by Twin Sister.  This song is of a different tone and beat than the more popular The Recipe but still has a chill tone and many popular artists use songs and don’t give enough credit to the original artists.  This is our attempt to give a little more credit to the known unknowns.

Check out this fun but serious little song out by Of Monsters and Men.  It also has a good little video to follow the song, Little Talk.  I can’t decide if this is a happy or depressing song, and maybe that is what makes it so good.  It is a convo between two one time lovers? Is is about two great friends who grew up together but went separate ways because of differences or maybe even death?  The video is great but obviously doesn’t help answer these questions.  Hope you enjoy the song and how it leaves you guessing as much as we do.

These are the most recent songs I have purchased or downloaded off mixtapes, there could be posts in the future featuring these songs as well with more info so check back daily.

Trey Songz – I Invented Sex (Remix) ft, Keri Hilson, & Usher

Pleasure P – Beat It Up – ft. J. Valentine

Andre 3000 – I Do ft. Drake, Young Jeezy, and Jay-Z

Of Monsters and Men – Little Talks

Kendrick Lamar – The Recipe ft. Dr Dre

Usher – Nice & Slow & Lemme See

Twin Sister – Meet The Frownies

Chris Brown – Turn Up The Music

For King & Country – Busted Heart

Cashin Out – Ca$h Out

Gucci Mane – Lemonade

Toto – Africa

Wow,  I know a already posted on this song but I had to dedicate a post to the “We Are Young” music video.  You should watch the video by Fun ft. Janet Monae and then read this post.  Would this not be the craziest and fun music video if you were in it?  Doesn’t everyone wish they could go into a room and smash everything to get out all of your life’s frustration behind you.  Fun does a great job of depicting how a night can go but we always go into the night with one goal whether that is to hook up or to have a great night with your girl/boy friend and we always leave the night with that same goal weather it is accomplished or not.

After hearing this today I though I would share.  “You Matter” by Peachcake is a little different and not like our usual posts but, here is a little background on this unknown group out of Arizona.  Stefan, Mike, David, and Archie know how to collaborate to create some energetic and creative tracks.  It is so creative they really don’t fall 100% into on genre, they are mainly Indie but they have a house/electronic and pop sound with a little R&B lyrics.  This song is also great because it will fit in many different atmosphere’s from a bar to a pre-game.  Enjoy!
