LordeLook out for Lorde in the future as she uniquely marries a little pop, hip hop, and indie together.  I like the honesty in the following verses in the hook of this song, “We don’t care, we’re driving cadillacs in our dreams, but everybody’s like cristal, maybach, diamonds on your time piece.” “It don’t run in our blood, that kind of lux just ain’t for us. We crave a different kind of buzz.”

I hate how rock music seems to be dying.  Rock and Alternative bring other genres for us to spread here at Slightly Raging and I am afraid it won’t be around for long.  Sure you will have bands like this pop up every once in a while but gone with the days of straight new age rock radio stations.  They are bogged down with Indie and Folk music.

Walk Off The Earth

Walk Off The Earth looks like a fun group.  They are out of Ontario, Canada and check out their cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” below, one guitar and five people!

Imagine Dragons

This is a great example of how simplicity can go a long way.  This group Imagine Dragons have their shit together and know how to combine a simple rhythm and a beat to some great vocals.  Notice in this song, Radioactive, the vocals don’t over take the music and vise versa.

Check out this fun but serious little song out by Of Monsters and Men.  It also has a good little video to follow the song, Little Talk.  I can’t decide if this is a happy or depressing song, and maybe that is what makes it so good.  It is a convo between two one time lovers? Is is about two great friends who grew up together but went separate ways because of differences or maybe even death?  The video is great but obviously doesn’t help answer these questions.  Hope you enjoy the song and how it leaves you guessing as much as we do.

Wow,  I know a already posted on this song but I had to dedicate a post to the “We Are Young” music video.  You should watch the video by Fun ft. Janet Monae and then read this post.  Would this not be the craziest and fun music video if you were in it?  Doesn’t everyone wish they could go into a room and smash everything to get out all of your life’s frustration behind you.  Fun does a great job of depicting how a night can go but we always go into the night with one goal whether that is to hook up or to have a great night with your girl/boy friend and we always leave the night with that same goal weather it is accomplished or not.

After hearing this today I though I would share.  “You Matter” by Peachcake is a little different and not like our usual posts but, here is a little background on this unknown group out of Arizona.  Stefan, Mike, David, and Archie know how to collaborate to create some energetic and creative tracks.  It is so creative they really don’t fall 100% into on genre, they are mainly Indie but they have a house/electronic and pop sound with a little R&B lyrics.  This song is also great because it will fit in many different atmosphere’s from a bar to a pre-game.  Enjoy!

If you don’t remember a while back in September, I had mentioned this artist and this song in a post.  The song was released in Gotye’s home country of Australia on July 5th 2011.  Gotye’s song “Somebody That I Used to Know” has now reached the top 10 on itunes in American and I hate to say it but you could have heard it here first!  At slightly raging we do not try to predict the next big thing or the next big artist, we are simply trying to spread as much good music across different genres to the masses.  Check out Gotye’s album “Making Mirrors” below and his unique video above.

Another great song out of the Indie genre.  Joanna Newsom like most Indie artists, makes some of the best known unknown music out there.  I first heard this song while watching a commercial for Melbourne, Australia during the Australian Open a couple years back (Video here). For some reason the song and her voice just captivated me.  It is definitely a song you can play, sit back and let your mind go off and think about the most random things out there, I mean even the title “Sprout and The Bean” just make you think.

Anyone ever heard of Kid Harpoon?  This Indie artist out of the UK doesn’t have a lot of popular songs but this one, “Stealing Cars“, has to be one of his best. The song was released in his 2009 LP titled “Once”. The contrasts of a mellow rhythm combined with great electricity given to you by the guitar is amazing. This track brings me back to those days of mischief during those long nights out having a good time with friends.
